Rick pushes forward a plan to lure the walkers away from the community before they become a greater threat. Rick's brutal domination of the Alexandrians leads one to contemplate killing him while Morgan provokes him to question his conscience.

Ultimately, the plan falls apart when a horn blares near Alexandria, attracting half the herd from the orderly "parade. Jennifer Lynch. Alexandria is invaded by the Wolves, who brutally slaughter people in the streets.

Spencer opens fire on a truck approaching the wall, killing the driver and inadvertently activating the truck's horn. Morgan saves people while Carol fights her way to the armory and distributes guns to survivors.

As the Alexandrians begin fighting back, Morgan is attacked by a member of the Wolves he had previously met on the road and convinces him and his pack to retreat.

Michael Slovis. Glenn and Michonne race to lead a group ahead of a herd which has changed course for Alexandria. The herd catches up to them, and only Michonne, Heath and Scott make it back to the community.

Failing to distract the herd, Glenn and Nicholas are surrounded by walkers, leading Nicholas to panic and kill himself. Rick circles around for an RV hoping to draw the herd back on the planned route, but he is attacked by the Wolves that Morgan dismissed from Alexandria.

Rick kills them, but the shot-up RV won't start as the walker herd begins surrounding it. Stephen Williams.

In flashbacks, Morgan is living in the woods after burning down his apartment in a fit of insanity. He stumbles upon a secluded cabin and shoots at its sole inhabitant, psychiatrist Eastman, who knocks Morgan out and puts him in a cell.

The two gradually bond as Eastman teaches Morgan aikido and a philosophy that all life is precious. After Eastman is bitten by a walker, Morgan kills him before he can turn, leaves and discovers a sign that leads to Terminus.

In the present, Morgan tells his story to a Wolf he had secretly taken prisoner, in hopes of inspiring him to change his ways. Rick returns to Alexandria barely ahead of the walker herd.

With walkers now surrounding the community and the town ravaged by the Wolves' attack, morale among the Alexandrians begins to drop.

While searching for Glenn, Maggie tells Aaron that she is pregnant. Denise is quickly losing her confidence in her abilities as a doctor, but Tara encourages her to continue trying.

After Rick saves Deanna from a walker, she suggests he is more fit to lead Alexandria. Heather Bellson.

While helping lead the walker herd away from Alexandria, Daryl is separated from Sasha and Abraham when they're ambushed by a group of strangers.

Daryl is captured by a trio of survivors, who suspect he is one of the assailants. Daryl tries to recruit his captors, but they steal his crossbow and motorcycle before fleeing.

Abraham and Sasha reunite with Daryl; they begin to head back to Alexandria in a fuel truck. David Boyd. After hiding from the walker herd, Glenn encounters Enid and convinces her to accompany him back to Alexandria.

Ron sneaks into the armoury and steals ammunition. Carol confronts Morgan, suspecting that he is holding a prisoner.

Glenn and Enid release several balloons, leading Maggie to realize Glenn is alive. However, at that moment, the damaged clock tower collapses, opening a breach in Alexandria's wall.

With the wall breached, walkers invade Alexandria. Carol takes shelter in Morgan's house and discovers Denise treating the captured Wolf. Carol attempts to kill the Wolf, but Morgan stops her, only to be immediately knocked out by the Wolf, who takes Denise hostage and escapes.

Succumbing to infection, Deanna stages a last stand as Rick's group disguises themselves as walkers and maneuvers through the walker horde.

In a post-credits scene, Daryl, Abraham and Sasha are confronted by the Saviors, who tell them that all of their possessions now belong to Negan.

While saving Denise from walkers, the Wolf is shot by Carol and killed by walkers. Sam and Jessie are killed by walkers while moving through the herd.

In response, Ron tries to shoot Rick, but is killed by Michonne; Carl is shot in the eye as the handgun discharges. Rick inspires others to make a desperate stand against the herd; they are about to be overwhelmed when the walkers are diverted by burning fuel brought by Daryl, Sasha and Abraham.

Some two months after battling the walkers in Alexandria, Rick and Daryl head out for a supply run and encounter a smooth-talking man known as Jesus , who steals their truck; they bring him back to Alexandria after a tussle.

Meanwhile, Michonne follows Spencer into the woods and aids him in dispatching and burying the walker that once was his mother, Deanna. Rick's group travels to The Hilltop with Jesus to trade and alleviate Alexandria's food shortage.

Talks are interrupted when a Hilltop resident attempts to assassinate Hilltop's leader, Gregory, on Negan's orders. Jesus explains that Negan's people have been extorting food, medicine and supplies from the Hilltop under the threat of an attack.

Maggie makes a deal with Gregory to kill Negan, take out the Saviors, and return a Hilltop hostage in exchange for half of their supplies.

Rick and the others weigh their options when a high-stakes mission to Hilltop proves more complicated than they expected. Rick's group reels from a brutal act of violence and wonders what other horrors Negan and the Saviors have in store for them.

Cornered by Negan's men, Rick and the group are forced to face grisly consequences. The Saviors seize a hostage. Two of the survivors arrive at the Kingdom, a seemingly idyllic new community headed by a leader with a flair for the dramatic.

An Alexandrian imprisoned at the Savior compound learns how Dwight became one of Negan's men -- and refuses to go down that path.

When the Saviors pay a visit to Alexandria to seize supplies, the group looks to Rick for a way out. Father Gabriel thinks on his feet.

Gregory arrives at the Hilltop and orders Maggie and Sasha to leave. While Rick goes on a supply run, Carl sets out on a mission of his own.

An Alexandrian winds up in an isolated community and must determine whether its residents are potential friends or foes.

Donnie ist mittlerweile an seinem Blutverlust verstorben. Maggie bindet ihn an einem Seil fest, das zur Tür reicht.

Als Molly wieder in den Raum tritt, wird sie von Donnie gebissen und von Maggie in Rage totgeschlagen. Die beiden nehmen Mollys Waffe und fliehen.

Der Schuss ruft Michelle herbei, die von Maggie angegriffen wird. Vergeblich bittet sie Paula, wegzulaufen. Paula schlägt Carol die Pistole aus der Hand und wird im Handgemenge von ihr in einen Pfahl geworfen und vom danebenstehenden Untoten angefallen.

Über Funk meldet sich die Verstärkung. Carol imitiert Paulas Stimme und lotst sie zur Schlachtgasse. Einen Raum haben die beiden Frauen mit Benzin präpariert.

Als die fünf Männer dort hineingehen, werden sie eingeschlossen und per dazugeworfener Zigarette bei lebendigem Leib verbrannt.

Primo wird von Rick erschossen, als dieser behauptet, jener Negan zu sein, nach dem sie suchen. Zwei Trupps aus fünf Leuten gehen aus Alexandria heraus.

Denise möchte zu einer Boutique, in der in der früheren Zeit auch eine kleine Apotheke untergebracht war. Daryl und Rosita begleiten sie. Sie folgt ihm dennoch und nur Rosita nimmt die Abkürzung.

Sie und Daryl verstauen die gefundenen Medikamentenvorräte in zwei Rucksäcke. Auf Vorwürfe von Daryl antwortet sie kämpferisch, es sei gut gewesen, sich ihren Ängsten zu stellen.

Da tritt ein Pfeil aus ihrem Auge heraus und Dwight und ein Dutzend Saviors kommen mit dem gefangen genommenen Eugene aus dem Wald neben der Bahnstrecke heraus.

Eugene erblickt den versteckten Abraham und macht Dwight auf ihn aufmerksam. Daryl und Rosita nehmen wieder ihre Gewehre auf und es gibt ein Feuergefecht.

Eugene hat einen Streifschuss erlitten und wird mit einem in der Apotheke gefundenen Antibiotikum behandelt. Er und Abraham versöhnen sich wieder.

Abraham macht Sasha eine Avance und die bittet ihn in ihr Haus. Denise wird beerdigt. Tobin erhält einen Abschiedsbrief von Carol: Obwohl sie alle in Alexandria liebt, möchte sie nicht mehr ständig für die Gemeinschaft kämpfen und töten.

Deshalb werde sie Alexandria verlassen. Man solle ihr nicht folgen. Morgan erzählt ihm die Geschichte des von ihm gefangen gehaltenen Wolfes, der Denise rettete und diese dann Carl.

Rick fragt vor Überraschung nach. Dort spürt Maggie einen starken Unterleibsschmerz. Michonne, Glenn und Rosita finden Daryl und wollen, dass er nach Alexandra zurückkehrt und dass sie von dort aus das weitere Vorgehen planen.

Doch Daryl meint, er kann das nicht, geht und Rosita folgt ihm. Die beiden Zweiergruppen werden von Saviors um Dwight gefangen genommen, wobei Daryl von Dwight angeschossen wird.

Morgan findet das gesuchte Pferd und setzt auf ihm die Suche nach Carol fort; mit dem gleichen Ziel schleppt sich der in den Rücken getroffene Savior immer schwerer vorwärts.

Morgan findet vor einem Haus die gleichfalls verletzte Carol und legt ihr einen Verband an; der Schütze hatte sie im vorhergegangenen Kampf mit seinem Messer verwunden können.

Carol bittet ihn, zu gehen. Er ignoriert Morgans Worte, dass er überleben kann, wenn er die Waffe fallen lässt und wird vom ihm erschossen.

Zwei an Ritter erinnernde Männer tauchen auf, Morgan teilt dem einen mit, dass er dessen Pferd gefunden hat und Hilfe benötigt; der Mann aus Episode 15 sagt mit Handschlag zu.

Diesmal kehren sie ohne auszusteigen direkt um. Ihre Mienen werden sorgenvoller, sie haben bemerkt, dass es verschiedene Saviorgruppen waren.

Eine vierte Blockade nach einer Brücke besteht aus einem riesigen Haufen Baumstämmen, der unsichtbar angezündet wird, während der anfangs Gefangene an der Brücke erhängt wird.

Als das Pfeifen der Saviors ertönt, laufen sie noch ein Stück weiter und finden sich auf einer plötzlich beleuchteten Waldlichtung wieder, umringt von einer gewaltigen Überzahl Saviors, von denen Eugene bereits gefangen genommen wurde.

Der Wortführer von anfangs lässt alle auf die Knie gehen. Die in Episode 15 zuvor gefangenen genommenen Daryl, Glenn, Michonne und Rosita werden dazugereiht, dann der Boss angekündigt.

Negan lässt sich Rick zeigen und kündigt ihm an, es in ein paar Minuten bedauern zu werden, ihn mit dem Töten vieler seiner Leute herausgefordert zu haben.

Er erklärt die neue Weltordnung, dass sie von nun an für ihn zu arbeiten und ihm zu geben haben, was sie haben. Je mehr sie sich dagegen wehren, desto härter wird ihr Leben werden.

Er stellt Lucille, seinen mit Stacheldraht umwickelten Baseballschläger vor, mit dem er gleich einen von ihnen zur Strafe besinnungslos prügeln wird.

Als er überlegt, ob es Maggie sein wird, wirft sich Glenn nach vorne; Negan macht darauf aufmerksam, dass, wenn jemand nochmals die kniende Reihe verlässt, er ihn umbringen werde.

Negan läuft mit einem Abzählreim die Reihe ab. Als er sein Opfer gefunden hat, schlägt er wiederholt kräftig zu.

Daneben wird mittels einer langen Rückblende die Vorgeschichte des Mädchens Enid, das seit wenigen Monaten in Alexandria lebt, erzählt.

Demnach war sie zuvor mit ihren Eltern unterwegs. Rick weist Michonne und Glenn dazu an, die unter ihnen befindlichen Alexandrianer, darunter Nicholas, Heath und Scott zurück nach Alexandria zu bringen.

Rick bricht allein zu einem in der Nähe abgestellten Wohnwagen auf, in der Hoffnung, mit dessen Hilfe die abgelenkte Herde wieder eintreiben und ebenfalls aus der Gegend wegführen zu können.

Nachdem Morgan den Anführer der Wölfe gefangen genommen hat, erzählt er diesem seine Vergangenheit, wodurch der Zuschauer die Ereignisse um Morgan zwischen der Folge der 3.

Staffel und der 1. Folge der 5. Staffel erfährt. In Alexandria haben die Aufräumarbeiten nach dem Angriff der Wölfe begonnen. Man erfährt, dass Tobin und seine Gruppe es nach Alexandria zurück geschafft haben, wie auch Michonne, Heath und Scott.

Maggie erfährt von Michonne, dass Glenn und Nicholas das vereinbarte Zeichen nicht abgesetzt haben und die Gruppe daher gezwungen war, die beiden vorerst zurückzulassen.

Sasha, Abraham und Daryl ist es gelungen, die Hälfte der Herde wegzulenken. Allerdings geraten sie in einen Hinterhalt durch Unbekannte, die unvermittelt das Feuer auf sie eröffnen.

Daryl gelingt es, sich vor zwei ihn verfolgenden Autos mit seinem Motorrad im Wald zu verstecken. Sie vermuten, dass der Hinterhalt jemand anderen gegolten hat.

Morgan teilt seine Überzeugung mit, dass alles Leben wertvoll ist und Menschen sich ändern können. Rick verstärkt später mit Tobin den beschädigten Teil des Zauns.

Rosita trainiert die Alexandriner im Umgang mit der Machete, dabei sieht sich Eugene von Rosita angepflaumt und missverstanden und geht; Rick, später auch Carl, bringen Ron, dessen Vater Pete Rick nur wenige Tage zuvor erschossen hat, den Umgang mit einer Pistole bei.

Ron erhält die Waffe ohne Patronen, entwendet später allerdings welche aus der Waffenkammer. Später entschuldigt er sich bei ihr dafür.

Rick weist die Bewohner an, sich in ihren Häusern zu verstecken. Rick zerstört das Schloss der ins Haus führenden Tür, die mit einem Sofa verbarrikadiert wird, nachdem die beiden Teenager zurückgelangt sind.

Daryl, Sasha und Abraham im Tankwagen werden von einer achtköpfigen Bikergang mit Langwaffen gestoppt. Der Wortführer lässt sie aussteigen, ihre Pistolen übergeben und schickt einen von ihnen mit Daryl los, das Fahrzeughintere zu kontrollieren.

Als er sich gerade dazu entscheidet, verwandelt Daryl, der hinterm Fahrzeug das Gangmitglied lautlos ausschalten konnte, mit einer der von Abraham gefundenen Granaten das Bedrohungsszenario in ein Flammeninferno.
